Director of EE-ESD lab is Eugenia Flogaiti, Professor of Environmental Education / Education for Sustainable Development in the Faculty of Early Childhood Education of the School of Education, University of Athens.


Eugenia Flogaiti born in Lefkada in 1953. She studied Βiology at the University of Athens and Ecology (MSc, PhD) at Ecole Normale Superieure - University Paris 6 (P. et M. Curie) in France. The last 30 years dedicated to Environmental Education and Education for Sustainability. She has published books, educational materials and articles in Greece and abroad and participated as scientific coordinator, coordinator, consultant and assessor in various European and National programs. She has designed, organized and implemented teacher training programs for primary and secondary education.


Marianthi Kalafati is a kindergarten teacher and a Ph.D canditate in Environmental Education in the Faculty of Early Childhood Education of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She has obtained a bachelor’s degree in Preschool Education and Teaching from University of Patras, a Master’s degree in Education (M.Ed) in Speech Teacher Education from Newcastle University (UK) and a diploma of two-year Further Education in Educational Sciences, in Early Childhood Education and Teaching of Athens University. She has also graduated from a three-year program in Photographic Studies at a private school and she has been dealing with artistic photography as an amateur ever since. She has been teaching in public kindergarten schools since 1999 and currently she teaches in the 2nd Kindergarten school of Voula. During the past years, as an associate kindergarten teacher of Athens University (Faculty of Early Childhood Education), she has been supervising the practical training of senior students, oriented in Environmental Education/Education for Sustainability.


Nektaria Gounari is PhD candidate at the University of Athens and her doctoral thesis is about "Building the capacity of critical thinking in Education for Sustainable Development". She graduated from the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens in 2003 and received her Master Degree in 2007, in "Theory, Practice and Evaluation of Educator's Work", direction: "Environmental Education for Sustainability", Faculty of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology of University of Athens. Since 2004 is systematically engaged in Environmental Education and she is an active member of the Laboratory for Environmental Education / Education for Sustainable Development of the University of Athens. She has published several scientific papers, as her research interests are focused on issues related to the connection of education and sustainability.


Dimitra Poulou has graduated in the field of Environmental Science (University of Aegean) and has Masters degrees at Science & Technology of Water Resources (Water quality & Environmental Technology) at the National Technical University of Athens and Applied Geography and Spatial Planning (Management of Natural and Human Induced Hazards) at Harokopio University of Athens. She is PhD canditate on the department of Faculty of Early Childhood Education at National and Kapodistrian Univercity of Athens. Furthermore, she had scholarship from foundation Kyprianides and is member of UNESCO. She cooperated with The Cyprus Institute in the project BEWATER and has participated as leader in youth Erasmus+ program. Additional, has published papers in international journals and finally she is instructor at vocational training institute since October 2014.


Elli Naoum is a Doctor of Environmental Education in the Faculty of Early Childhood Education of the School of Education, University of Athens. She has post Bachelor studies from London University (Institute of Education) with a Master of Arts in Child Development with Early Childhood Education. She studied Pedagogy in Early Childhood Education at Athens University and did post study training (diploma) of two-year Further Education in Educational Sciences, in Early Childhood Education and Teaching of Athens University. She collaborates with the Faculty of Early Childhood Education of the School of Education, University of Athens, as Authorized Doctor in “Practical Activities in Environmental Education/ Education for Sustainability and as an active member of the EE-ESD lab. She works as a nursery teacher and is head of a public Nursery School where she has designed various environmental programs and has participated with research works in congresses, symposiums and meetings. Additionally, she has published scientific works, educational books, and children’s books. Her research interests focus mainly on matters regarding the connection between theory and educational practice and in the development of the sustainable school.


Christina Nomikou studied Pedagogics (Ralleios Academy) Theology (Athens Kapodistrian University) and Sociology (Panteion University of Athens). She holds a diploma for a two-year post-graduation training in General Education at Marasleio Teachers School, Athens Kapodistrian University . Currently she is concluding her thesis for a PhD in Environmental Education/Education for Sustainable Development, at the Faculty of Education and Training at Pre-School Age (Athens Kapodistrian University). She has served as a class teacher for many years and during the years 2004 to 2008 she was member of the staff of the Environmental Education Center of Argyroupolis (Athens). From 2011 on, Mrs. Nomikou is the Headmistress at the 7th Primary School of Agios Dimitrios (Athens). She is co-author of educational materials for Environmental Education and has published articles in journals and congresses.


Effrosyni Douvitsa is a biologist and a Ph.D canditate in Environmental Education in the Faculty of Early Childhood Education of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her doctoral thesis is about “Investigation of Teachers’ Perceptions and Attitudes on Genetically Modified Organisms-Developing Teaching Skills of Controversial Issues in Education for Sustainable Development”. She graduated from the Department of Biology of the School of Sciences from University of Crete in 2008 and received her Master Degree in " Modern Trends in the Teaching of Biology with the Aid of New Technologies", from the department of Biology, School of Science of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in 2011. Since 2012 is systematically engaged in Environmental Education and she is an active member of the Laboratory for Environmental Education/ Education for Sustainable Development of the University of Athens.


Christina Katsenou is a Doctor of Environmental Education in the Faculty of Early Childhood Education at the University of Athens. She studied Pedagogy in the Faculty of Primary Education and she has a Master Degree in Environmental Education in the School of Philosophy, both of them at the University of Athens. Since 1998, she is systematically engaged in Environmental Education. She works as a teacher in Primary Education and has carried out a variety of environmental programs. She has also been active in the field of environmental NGOs, coordinating educational programs for children and young people. She collaborates with the Faculty of Early Childhood Education and she is an active member of the EE-ESD lab. Additionally, she has published scientific works and educational material and has participated with research works in various congresses and meetings. Her current research interests are in the relation between Education and Sustainable Development and the development of the Sustainable School.
